Setting Up Access Areas

Access Areas are enclosed parts of the site where access is controlled by a PTI Keypad, Proximity Card Reader, Swipe card reader or Single Door Controller.  This will include the Default area  (commonly called 'Onsite' ) which is the entire site enclosed by the fence and accessed through a gate.  It will also include any building where the door access is controlled by a PTI device, any floor accessed by a PTI controlled elevator keypad and any gated area within the property controlled the by a PTI device.  Access areas do NOT include individually alarmed units, alarmed office areas, or any other part of the site that does not have individual access controlled doors or gates to enter them.

To enter the access area setup, follow the steps in Setting Up Access Levels.

  1. In the Access Area Setup screen, select a Name and Description for the access area.  The initial area worked on will be the Default area.  We suggest that this be renamed "Onsite" and be used to include everything within the outside fence-line.  Most sites will only have this one area, but others may have individual buildings, floors, or rooms that are controlled by access devices inside the property.  It is a really good idea to begin working from the outside of your property to the inside of your property.

  2. In the Settings Area, set the Lighting Area and Alarm Zone Alarm Zones allow a site with multiple sirens to create areas or zones where the sirens sound only for alarms that occur in that area. For example, a site with multiple buildings can have a siren inside each building that sounds only for alarms that occur within that particular building. Most sites will only have one Default Alarm Zone. for this Access Area.  If these have not yet been setup, just leave the Lighting Area as (None) and the Alarm Zone as the Default.  You can change these later after they are setup.

Set the Rearm Time for the access area.  If the door or gate to the area has a switch, or if there is motion sensors or other alarm sensing devices in the area, this is the length of time after someone has entered the area before the alarm will rearm.  Generally, for access areas, this should be set to 00:00 to leave it off, or be set to a long enough time that the customer will have left the area completely.  If the customer logs off the site correctly at the exit device (keypad, card reader, etc) then the alarm will rearm anyway.  The Access Area Rearm Time is just a backup of this in case the customer tailgates off the site.  Refer to the Rearming the Alarms and Turning off Lights section for more information on this.

  3. Set the AI Devices that Enter or Exit this area.  This becomes especially important if you have access areas within access areas, such as a gate accessed site that has a building on it with a keypad controlled door and an elevator inside that is controlled by a keypad.  In this example, the entire site inside the gate/fence-line would be one access area, the building would be a second access area, and each floor of the building would be a separate access area.

  4. If the area is within a building, such as a floor or individually keypad controlled room (wine storage or maintenance room), you need to identify the Building this Area is In.  Select the Building and Floor.  If the Building has not been setup, click on the Buildings button at the bottom of the window to setup the building.  Refer to the Setting Up Buildings section for more information on this.

  5. Set the Area Alarm Inputs.  These are only used if there are motion sensors, glass break sensors, door switches, window switches or other alarm inputs for the area as a whole.  These do not include individual unit alarms within the area.  Those are setup separately.  Select any alarm inputs from the list that are connected to this area.

  6. Click Save at the bottom of the screen when complete.  If Buildings, Lighting Areas, Alarm Zones or AI Devices have not been setup, complete each of those before proceeding.

Refer to the Setting Up Buildings, Setting Up Lighting Areas, Setting Up Alarm Zones, or Setting Up AI Devices for more information on each of these.
